The body hasn't improved much with the aluminum body with a camera bump and no headphone jack, they have taken off the headphone jack, so don't expect one from the new pixel 2. Big bezels unlike the modern smartphones we've seen before.
But the best part about the new phone is the new cleaned looks and odd colored power button, looks and feels good on the hand with that matte finish on the back. Its also water resistant.
Display is much better with a 1080p amoled.Ideally nice and bright and very saturated.

Software-wise, the Pixel 2 has exclusive software for now, maybe it'll be out for other phones later. Who knows? Android 8.0 Oreo it pre-installed as the main OS, wallpapers are good, you see this moving effect on the wallpapers. A much nicer launcher and now, the search bar is located at the bottom where it is easy to reach.
Now that AMOLED is on this phone, the Always on Display feature can be used and you can check all those notifications and time without going to the trouble of turning on the phone.
Google has this "now playing" music always searching for music around you, and it tell you what the song is
Google Lens, is exclusive for Pixel, its a software where you 'touch' the screen with your eyes.
Now with Object Recognition assistant is much more convenient.
Both phones have this Active Edge 'squeeze feature' to launch google assistant much faster than before. It's very easy to hold as well.

Even with a single camera, Google has managed portrait mode with software blur.
